This spot marks a nexus where the Mormon Pioneer Trail, Pony Express National Historic Trail, and California National Historic Trail all cross. The divide is named for the unmistakable despair of the emigrants who upon reaching this spot, saw the jagged peaks and rough terrain of the Wasatch Mountains on the horizon. Heartbreak Summit is located along East Canyon Road outside of East Canyon State Park. This landmark is part of the Morgan County’s Self-Guided Auto Tour.
